Sorry, couldn’t resist. 300 was a hoot to watch, but it was interesting reading some of the historians who were upset by it’s liberties with history. The linked article ends with claiming the Greeks would find it bizarre. Bizarre?
Ever read the The Odyssey or The Illiad? The idea of going for a stylistic presentation of history modified for entertainment is pretty old. The Oedipus cycle comes to mind as well as Shakespeare’s “historic” tragedies. Those were presented as stylized versions with history and gross distortions introduced to please the audiences, or their patrons in the case of Shakespeare.
Just remember the sage advice of the MST3K crew: “Just repeat to yourself `It’s just a show, I should really just relax.`”
